lexus>bmw for college??? I hope you didn't go to school for math. First let me just say both of these cars are great cars by anybodies standards, and are going to be more reliable than your older TT. Second the bmw 3 series has been and still is the bench mark car for that segment for more than 15 years. I am not just saying that, hundreds of automotive journalist are said that. Read any manufactures press release notes that compete in the luxury mid size car market and their ultimate benchmark will be the BMW 3 series. I have yet to hear a manufacture say that they are setting their sites to build a car to go after an IS300 or a g35 or an audi a4 (maybe an RS4)..ect. I am not saying the IS300 is a bad car, but the lexus>bmw for college is a very unsubstantiated comment. If you want to talk about straight reliability than....maybe yes I would give the nod to the lexus..but if you wanted straight reliability than go get yourself a corolla or a civic, which honestly if you are going to college makes way more sense than either one of the other two. Something to consider though is Lexus/toyota does not release patents to allot of their parts so there is only one place to get them..and its not oreilly's...I have had examples of both manufactures cars and I would way rather find parts for a BMW than a Lexus. Which car to take to the track? Not even a comparison, straight out of the box the M3 was built for track events. I can't remember off hand if it was Car and Driver or Road and Track, but they named it the best handling car period for cars over $30K. To be fair though the is300 was never meant to compete against the M3, but rather the 330. Best advice is to drive both cars and make a decision for yourself. They are tremendous automobiles and definitely at the top of the segment, but remember neither one comes with T-tops.
